Maggy’s Hair Has hair Story

Maggy, 23, Essen (Germany)

Myfrolover: Hey Maggy,so what triggered your choice to go natural ?

Maggy: Hmm I would actually say three beautiful Youtube naturalistas who decided to go natural also 🙂 Neffyfrofro, naptural85 and xgoldn

How long did it take you to transition?/ How long have you been transiitoning?

I did my very first big chop 3 years ago (I chopped everything off and went bald I was crying so badly though haha). But after 1.5 years, I got tired of all the shrinkage and textured my hair, I loved the result. But I reached the point of missing my natural hair so I’ve been transitioning since then (I think it has been 4 months now)

What reactions did you get?

Well, I got some pretty kind responses from those that were cool with it. Others thought it was a daring move

How did that affect you in the beginning?

I felt really excited about my journey.

How has the journey affected your self perception?

I feel a lot more confident in myself and proud of rocking my nappy hair.

What are people’s reactions now?

Hmm.. most of the black people can’t even believe it’s my own hair some of them are like: ”awww I like your weave! Is this the natural kinky one from the UK or the US? Where did you get it??” They get very impressed when I tell them it’s my real hair and ask a lot of questions about what I use for my hair and how I take care of it.

What are the joys and struggles of the journey?

The joys are definitely embracing the real you, because there is no reason to hide it..

What is your hair routine?

I deep condition every three to four days using Organic Root Stimulator replenishing conditioner and GlissKur Total repair 1 minute intensivkur. After that I just part my hair in four big sections and start detangling using my Denman D7 Brush and moisturize with Cantu Shea butter leave in conditioning repair cream or Dr. Mircale’s weightless moisturizing creme and loc in the moisture with a mix of Shea Butter, Jamaican black castor oil and jojoba oil (It’s my own whipped Shea Butter mix)

I also massage my scalp every 2-3 days with jbco (Jamaican Black Castor oil) and a little bit of peppermint oil and I dust my ends every 3-4 months

What is your go-to style?

Definitely a twist or braid out

Name 3 products you couldn’t live without

My whipped Shea butter mix, Leave in conditioner and the ORS replenishing conditioner.

Myfrolover: Thanks so much for the interview Maggy, keep rocking your fro !!
